Why You Should Look at Your Laser Clinic’s Before & After Gallery

Most people recognize the value of doing their research when it comes to finding a reputable laser tattoo removal clinic, but if it’s your first time seeking treatment it can be difficult to know where to start.

We’ve written before about some of the most important factors that can shed light on the safety of a clinic, like their experience, the equipment they use, and even looking through their online reviews and testimonials.

However, we want to spend a little more time focusing on one aspect that many people don’t realize is a good indicator of a clinic’s ability — the before & after gallery.

The Importance of a Before & After Gallery

MEDermis Laser Clinic has been serving the Austin and San Antonio communities for over a decade and during this time we’ve seen our fair share of horror stories and red flags that we hope our potential clients will avoid.

When seeking a laser tattoo removal clinic many don’t realize that the before & after gallery could be a great place to start. Here are a few pointers to take into consideration when reviewing a clinic’s before and after gallery:

  • It takes years to gather treatment pictures. If a clinic has recently opened they should not have a large collection of images.
  • Often clinics are provided a portfolio of images from the laser manufacturer that they purchased their laser from. Look around and see if images look the same between clinics; if they are similar, chances are they’re using the same portfolio of images from the laser manufacturer.
  • While not super common in the industry, some clinics will alter images to make results look better.

At MEDermis Laser Clinic we are proud to have the largest before & after gallery, adding new images each month. We do not alter our photos, and to maintain consistency we take all pictures in our facilities.

Our goal in writing these blog posts is to provide helpful information that will ensure you have a healthy and safe experience when it comes to your tattoo laser removal. One other tip we want to touch on this month is the signs of an infected tattoo. We’ve seen clients come in just weeks after getting a tattoo they regret and we cannot use the laser on any fresh ink. This can ensure your skin is safe and your chance of infection is lower. Whether you’re getting your first tattoo or getting another, knowing the signs of infection is crucial.

Signs Your Tattoo May Be Infected

Minor inflammation and small reactions aren’t uncommon when getting a tattoo, but at a certain point, some symptoms should cause concern. While it’s always best to seek the advice of a medical professional, here are a few red flags to keep an eye out for.

  • a fever
  • rash, redness, or bumps in the tattoo area
  • abnormal swelling
  • increasing pain
  • shaking, chills, and sweats

The infection itself may arise from various factors such as bacteria, viruses, contaminated ink, unhygienic practices in the tattoo studio, or even an unknown allergy.

If you recognize any of the above issues, don’t worry. Treatment is possible under the guidance of a doctor. Depending on the severity of your infection your doctor may prescribe OTC medications, topical creams, or antihistamine medication.

To avoid the risk of infection be sure you follow all aftercare instructions strictly. A few of the most important things to focus on are keeping the newly inked area clean and covered with sterile gauze, and avoiding any irritants.

We hope the above information has been helpful as you embark on your own tattoo endeavors. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team of specialists today with any questions.
