How Much Does it Cost to Remove a Small Tattoo?

Without fail, every single time we see a client (new or old), the first question we get is: “how much will it cost to remove my tattoo?” and it makes sense! Doing a quick Google search will reveal that tattoo removal, whether for cover-ups or complete erasure, isn’t the cheapest. If you come across a place that seems too good to be true, then it likely is. Do your research and find a reputable and experienced removal clinic before letting anyone near you with a laser.

Now, with that being said, laser tattoo removal doesn’t have to break the bank, and oftentimes when we explain the reasoning behind the pricing and the factors that affect it, our clients are happy. Laser tattoo removal is the most effective, easiest, and safest way to remove your unwanted tattoos.

At MEDermis Laser Clinic, we want to make your tattoo removal affordable, using only the best technology available so you can be comfortable in your skin. We even offer special financing options and discounts – we’ll touch on this more later in the article.

How do you decide how much to charge for tattoo removal?

Whether you have a new job, are making room for a new tattoo, or just want to erase the reminder of a past impulse decision, having your tattoo removed with laser treatment doesn’t have to be costly and inconvenient.

We determine our pricing by the size in square inches. To determine this, we will ask you for the length and width in inches (roughly). With this information, our experienced laser technicians will be able to explain the cost per treatment – this typically leads us to our second most popular question, “how many treatments will I need?”

During your free consultation, one of our Certified Licensed Laser Technicians will be able to more accurately assess your tattoo and offer a better idea of the number of sessions you’ll need as well as a price to expect.

Is it cheaper to remove a small tattoo?

The cost of your laser tattoo removal isn’t solely based on the size of your tattoo. There are various other factors that can influence the number of sessions needed to erase your ink which in turn can impact price. Some of the deciding factors include:

  • Age of your tattoo
  • Ink density
  • Location
  • Pigment color

MEDermis Laser Clinic has completed more than 500,000 successful tattoo removals between San Antonio and Austin since 2006, and in this time, we’ve seen it all. Most tattoos are created using several colors, and a different laser wavelength is used to treat each individual hue. For example, turquoise is famously one of the most difficult colors to remove because there’s currently not a laser that specifically targets it. Depending on the colors of your tattoo, it could be as few as three sessions or more than 10.

If you complete the number of treatments we recommend during your consultation and your tattoo ink is still visible, we offer a guarantee that we will continue treating your tattoo until it is gone at no additional cost to you for one year.

What to expect with laser tattoo removal

Generally, removing a tattoo will be more expensive than getting inked. We have found that most tattoos disappear in three to seven sessions, with sessions ranging from 15 to 30 minutes. We typically schedule sessions six to eight weeks apart to allow enough time for your skin to heal properly.

Our team will help set an expectation around the total you will spend to have your tattoo removed. Oftentimes, clinics that use outdated technology will require more sessions and have less favorable results, which may also increase the price of your removal process and leave with you results that you don’t love.

In addition to outdated tech, inexperienced laser technicians can also impact your removal experience. The MEDermis team has years of experience and can guarantee results to our clients.

When you come in for your free consultation, our team will examine your tattoo, lay out the expectations for the number of sessions, and can explain our in-house financing options. We also offer various discounts for packages purchased, referrals, or to military personnel, senior citizens, nurses, teachers, and more! Just take a look at our discount page or call the MEDermis laser clinic in your area for more information.
